Who is Fontaines DC ?
Fontaines DC is a Irish rock band from Dublin, Ireland. The band consists of five members: frontman Grian Chatten, bassist Conleth Hill, guitarist Carlos O’Connell, drummer Tom Coll, and guitarist Liam Reilly. Fontaines DC‘s sound has been described as « post-punk » and « garage rock », with influences ranging from The Clash and Joy Division to David Bowie and The Stooges.
The band formed in 2017 after the dissolution of previous projects. Their name comes from the French word for « fountains » or « wells ». Fontaine DC released their first single, « Liberty Belle », in May 2018. It was followed by a second single, « Chequeless Reckless », in September 2018. Fontaine DC’s debut album, Dogrel, was released in April 2019 to critical acclaim. The album reached number two on the Irish Albums Chart and was nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Fontaines DC has toured extensively throughout Europe and North America, playing festivals such as Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and Primavera Sound. In 2020, the band was scheduled to embark on a world tour in support of Dogrel; however, the tour was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their catchy melodies and energetic live shows have won them a devoted following among fans of punk rock and indie rock. With their debut album, Dogrel, Fontaines DC has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the world of rock music.
